Potty Training Readiness Checklist

A simple way to know if your child is actually ready to start. You’ll stop guessing and start when it will work.

You tried potty training and it was a disaster

You started too early. You pressured and pressured. They resisted. You punished accidents. They got scared. You gave up. You went back to diapers. You felt defeated. Everyone else’s kid is trained. What’s wrong with yours? You want to know when to start and what to do.

What you’ll get

Part 1: Physical readiness

Stays dry 2+ hours, predictable BMs, pulls pants up/down, walks to potty, follows instructions. Need 3+ of these.

Part 2: Cognitive readiness

Knows when they need to go, understands “potty,” communicates needs, wants to be like grown-ups. Need 2+ of these.

Part 3: Emotional readiness

Shows interest in potty, wants independence, doesn’t resist potty talk, handles frustration. Need 2+ of these.

What the results mean

7+ total: Your child is ready. Start now.

4-6 total: Almost ready. Wait 2-4 weeks and check again.

Fewer than 4: Not ready yet. Wait 1-2 months and check again.
